US-Bajan club donates foodstuff![]() Published on: 12/3/2009. BAJANS ABROAD continue to send gifts to help the less fortunate at home. The latest contribution is from the Barbados Social Club of Philadelphia, which yesterday donated foodstuff to the Government's office of Poverty Alleviation in The Garrison, St Michael. "This office was recommended to us by the Consul General of New York. We think it is our duty to give back a little and we hope to give even more next year," said president Sylvan Payne. No stranger to charity work, Payne supports a variety of similar organisations and plays Santa Claus at children's parties overseas. He said they raised the items through cookouts and bring-a-can drives. Local member Oviston King said there were many Barbadians in the club and as food was more readily available in the United States it was logical for them to help in this way.
